FEB, UNPAK — FEB Suteru Farm is a Holland fries (FH) dairy farm that was established in 2013, with 32 biological assets and a farm area of 11,000m2. The location of this farm is in the vicinity of the housing of the Tegal Waru village community, Ciampea District, Bogor Regency, where on average the layout of the residences is still far from one another so they still have vacant land to plant productive plants.
Therefore, by seeing this condition as an opportunity for Suteru Farm to take advantage of the vacant lands around the farm, it indirectly supports the survival of Suteru Farm's farms and other farms, as well as raises the economy of the village community to be even better. Meanwhile, Suteru Farm is experiencing several difficulties, one of which is the availability of quality feed suppliers and financial management, which has resulted in a lower level of profitability lately. Currently the supply of forage is obtained from weeds by employing 1 (one) manual lawn mower using a pickup truck.
This Community Service activity is a collaboration of 2 (two) Universities, namely Pakuan University and IPB University, where the community service team from Pakuan University consists of Dr. Retno Martanti Endah Lestari and Hasrul, MM. Meanwhile, from IPB University, Dr. Lilis Khotijah.
Efforts made for Suteru Farm and also other farms in the Tegal Waru Village area need to offer several solutions, including: 1) Optimizing vacant land around the community's residential yards by cultivating forage in the form of grass and legumes; 2) Application of preservation technology including fermentation; 3) Centralized management in one container for the management of fermented cow feed so that it goes directly to the hands of the farm; and 4) improve the financial management of livestock in order to increase profitability, explained Hasrul.
Prior to conducting training and mentoring on the application of preservation technology including fermentation, the abdimas team paid a visit to Sorinfer Jonggol."From this comparative study, we got the provision to conduct training on the manufacture of fermented green grass for further management at the "feed bank" in Suteru," said Retno.
Dr. Lilis revealed that the target set in this activity was carried out in 8 (eight) months, through the field survey method of potential vacant land, Forum Group Discussion (FGD) with Suteru Farm management and local community representatives by discussing knowledge about forage crop cultivation, grass fermentation forage and its marketing, lectures and trainings, practice from the solutions offered to mentoring.
